The Anniversary Party

Ever been to an Anniversary Party when you knew ABSOLUTELY nobody?? Let me rephrase that....I mean we did know the couple whose anniversary we were celebrating. The couple who was celebrating 25 years of marriage was my husband's fraternity brother and his wife. I did know his mother. But, you know how it goes....the guests of honor and the hosts are going to be busy, busy, busy....just mingling and making sure everybody else is happy! Oh. I probably should mention that I don't drink. So, my husband heads over to the bar. I pour myself a coke and survey the room. Ah HA!! I spy the cookie table...the Italian cookie table!! And, I might add...I LOVE me some Italian baked goods. So, I decide that I will stand over there and just photograph a "few" things before the guests of honor arrive. Then, I get antsy. I need to talk to someone. So, I spy the young lady who is one of the hosts....the daughter of the fraternity brother...introduce myself and the party has begun. She used to play with my daughter...when they were like 13. I'm really surprised she remembered me. Or maybe she just said that. Anyway, within minutes, her parents are scheduled to arrive. So, we are all QUIET and when they walk in we all yell, SURPRISE! And. No reaction. Shock? I guess so. Must Be. So, we say hello and we go sit at our assigned seat. I do not recognize any of the people at the table. I do, however, recognize the "names" of the people on the two nametags next to mine. I recognize the names from the mailbox out on the road at the cottage. But, I have never met the people. Well, what a fabulous time we had!! It was very low key. No speeches at all. DELICIOUS food!! Chicken French to die for!! It will be another eleven years til we reach 25 years of marriage. I'll be 61. My husband will be 72 years old. Here's to another 11 years! And, I am so glad that I did not miss this day of posting for NaBloPoMo! Hope you all aren't bored to tears!

How funny! Good post and it sounds like a good party - really no expectations this way, huh?

Sometimes, I think the best parties ARE the parties where you know NOBODY. You can do WHAT-EVAH you want. :)

Wow, how cool to meet your cabin neighbours at the party. It is wonderful to meet someone at an event and hit it off, it is way better, when that happens, and you know you will see them again and spend more time together. A wonderful post.

Hey, at least you were friends with the right people and were in attendance. I am sure they appreciated it. Glad you have a fabulous time.

We celebrated our 20th last July. We will be 49 and 50 when we have our 25th. I will be the 50 :-)
