No to Free Coupon?

I was in McDonald's the other day enjoying my free McCafe for which I had received a coupon in the mail.  Since it was the last day for the coupons and I had some extras, I decided to go over and spread the joy!

I cruised over to the order line and proceeded to offer my FREE coupons to several people in the line...I offered it to a family with young children...a group of teenagers and a mom with her daughter.  They all said NO.

This reaction puzzled me.

Here I am thinking I'm doing a good deed...when asked if they wanted my free coupon...they looked at me like I had two heads.

Don't you agree that this was very weird?  If someone offers me a coupon in Border's or Michael's...I'll use it and thank them very much!  I shared a coupon in line at Border's over Christmas and the man thanked me profusely...it saved  him alot of money!

Coupons rock in my book.  On average I save twenty dollars or more while grocery shopping.

What is wrong with people today.  I tried to do these folks a favor and they all said no.

Instead of walking away feeling good....I felt pretty awful.

That is really weird - especially with today's economy being what it is. Our Mom always tries to take advantage of coupons too, but only if it is something she would usually get or if it is something she really wants to try. She says it is amazing how much one can save with just a little effort.

People really are strange, aren't they? My theory is that people aren't use to getting something for nothing - I guess it comes down to trust and unfortunately there are too few people like you that simply want to help others for nothing in return.

I run into a similar phenomenon all the time with contests - to thank readers for their loyalty I set up contests and then have to "pull their arms" to get them to enter (and many don't at all!)...I'm giving them something for free and they don't want it? They are broke and don't want to get a free $75 gift card to buy Christmas gifts with? I don't get it either.

If you figure this out please write a book and I'll be the first to buy it! :O)

That is strange and the same thing happened to me last year...I ended up feeling very dumb when trying to do nice - I didn't get it. At all.

Forgive the reaction. They are jaded. Burned by the myriads of "free" offers that are deluged upon them. Don't feel awful, it is not you. It is society's failure as a whole. When I moved to VA I spent the first 3 mo. wondering what the locals were up to. First of all , every single time I stuck my head out I got hellos....[I knew nobody! why were they saying hello???] then one day as I started to load my groceries into my car it started to rain. Out of nowhere this man came and loaded them for me and offered me paper towels to dry my face. I told myself that he worked for the store. Two days later, I found out he does not work for the store, he was just being nice. Can you imagine that! And the dry cleaner drove me crazy offering me all sorts of treats and such... what was her angle???? Not to mention the neighbor that kept cutting my grass...and the ultimate was my gas station guy towing my car, taking me home and later delivering my car all fixed at no charge, because...."it was only a nail probably from the construction site...".
I have learned that there is such a thing as southern hospitality and I love it....BUT it took me a long while!

Oh that is odd! Sharing is caring... don't these people know that? I'm with you! I love surprising people or passing along a coupon. And I love it when people do it for me.

Hope you're having a good week. Kiss those cuties for me!

Cheers!

Sadly, some people are suspicious of any act of kindness. I hand the "coins" I get at Big Y to the person behind me all the time. Sometimes, I get a look like I just asked them to eat poison.

Keep doing what you do anyway :-)

Sometimes I think we live on this earth with aliens when I run across folks who look suspiciously at every kind gesture.

We wish you a lovely good year filled with good health and good laugh.
I'm so sorry to hear that. If I was there, I would have accepted your free coupon in a beat, here's a special hug for you.
Cheers!

Jeanne, that really is odd. I think people are so afraid of being ripped off or thinking that someone is going to harm them, they freak at the thought of anyone even approaching them anymore! Life has gotten so out of hand.

Don't feel badly. They just don't know what they gave up, more than likely!

was it only for coffee?
I'm trying to think of a reason someone would say "No"

It's like saying no -- don't hand out money.

I appreciate it when the cashier gives me the coupons I need. Not all cashiers are nice but some are. I always forget my coupons but then I think maybe when I do not use them I should give them to the cashier to give to people who she thinks needs them.

My daddy would have happily taken it! He loves those! I don't drink them but I probably would have taken the coupon a nice lady offered me. :0)

That is BIZARRE! I always pass my coupons off to others in line at the movies for concessions I'm not going to use~ There's no explaining some people!
