Sadly, It is That Time Again

Time to close the cottage again for the season. The whole process makes me sad. Tons of freakin' packing to do. Must take anything that will freeze OUT and take it home. So we have to remove batteries from everything and go through every single drawer, closet, cabinet....etc. Remove everything out of the cabinets and the fridge / freezer and defrost. Take all the outside sporting equipment, tables / chairs, yard ornaments and put them all in the basement. Then we have to empty all of the flower pots, rinse, and store them away for the winter. Sort through all the towels and bedding and decide which goes home and which stays here. The docks have all been brought in and the water system must be drained and winterized at the cottage. The jetski and the boat have already been done.

It takes us several weeks to go through this process. Although you'd think we'd have it down to a science by now! We do it in reverse in the spring. It makes me sad because as much as I love the fall season, I do NOT enjoy winter. I'm not an outdoorsy person anyway, and if I didn't have to go outside in the winter, I just wouldn't!! I was in an accident the winter before last when the roads were very icy. Scared the hell out of me. I DETEST driving in winter weather - really wet weather.

So we are going to our favorite restaurant, Tin Pan Galley, tonight to celebrate (probably not a good way to put it) the end of the season. It is something we do every year.

I hope you enjoyed your night out. I know what you mean about Winter, we don't have much frozen participation here but it does get dreary and cold and I hate being cold!

I always hated that part too when we had the (tourist resort). At the end when I was there alone and the rest of the family moved away - I did it all by myself. The water - the boat and motor - everything. I was always sad too. The smell of autumn all around and the sighing of the waves as they touched the shore - and it too cold to swim - although I always had one last swim just because.

Feeling all of this with you has brought back a ton of memories. Sniff...

That's an awful lot of work to have to do twice a year and I guess I never really thought about that aspect of owning a cottage. Then again, I don't own one.

Cheer up though, beautiful fall weather is around the corner, and before you know it you'll be celebrating Thanksgiving & Christmas! Where has 2008 gone?

How come you don't go out all year? Is that a stupid question? If it is don't answer it and you can just blame it on the wine *hic*
