Cards....What's Your Take?

As y'all know, I am hopelessly addicted to making greeting cards of every kind and shape! I've been happily making Christmas cards for months. Then I started talking to a few people here and there. It seems to me that many of them have decided not to send cards anymore. I know that alot of people are cutting back on things this year and have to admit that cards would be one thing to cut back on...with postage the way it is and all.

When I was so sick with pneumonia, I did not send cards. Every other year, come hell or high water, I send holiday cards....for every holiday. Now, my cards do require a little extra packaging and extra padding so it's about a dollar a card, not including the cost of the padded envelopes.

What are you all doing for holiday cards this year?

Sending....or

Not?

i am definitely sending. i don't do it every year, but that's the goal. there's just something warmer about receiving a tangible card signed by a dear friend. i just received one from my great-uncle in england, and it's just nice to see it each day to remind me of him. it's extra work and expense, but the recipient appreciates it.

I always love getting cards from people, some I don't hear from often other than the yearly card... and I especially love the ones that are hand made or designed.. craft type, photo type... anything that has a personal touch. I also make my own, and I know how much it means to me to recieve these type. It's a great way to reach out to each other, ESPECIALLY in difficult times. I think it's worth the extra money. - Karen

I'm up in the air about it still. I was going to do a newsletter featuring the x-ray of Chica, the bitchin' Bichon's kidney stones. However, the vet is having a hard time giving me a picture of the stones and I'm tired of trying to explain to him why I need the picture in the first place. I do have a couple boxes of cards I got half off at the end of last year. I could conceivably just do those up, but I'm just not feeling like it since what I really want to do is the newsletter.

I am sending...it's just a photo card of the kiddo's...but poeple seem to love getting them. I was on the fence, then I recieved my first xmas card in the mail. It made my day. So, yeah, I am going to send cards...but just to very close friends and family (which is less than 30!). So not too much work :)

i have always made and mailed cards at Christmas - ever since I was a little girl. We all created our own block print cards when we were young and then when I had T, the card was based around a creative photo of her. For the past few years I have used her photography for cards. Sometimes I don't feel people appreciate the work that goes in to making your own card but I find a lot of joy in doing it so that's all that matters. I have definitely cut back in the amount that I send out but I always feel proud about the ones I do mail. (It's sad, but I can probably count on one hand the number of cards I receive.)
haha by the way i mailed off your little gift last week. Hope they arrive safely.

well, I have been living away from home since I was 17, so holiday cards are a must.
Since I had the girls, we started sending photos with our holiday cards, and now we just do the holiday cards with embedded photos - in fact, we just got ours today! We ordered 40, but I also bought a box of generic cards for my friends (as opposed to family friends).

Ours also go to Europe, so I know what you mean when you talk about the price of postage!

I love the homemade careds like you make!!! I get a few of those from friends every year. I am sending cards - I always do and have for years! I'm sending a photo Christmas card of the kids with a Christmas letter - that I have yet to write and I don't have my cards back yet - hopefully this week and will have them mailed by the weekend.

Take care and have a good week, Jeanne - see ya - Kellan

I moved into the City and on my own at 17 and that same year I started sending out Christmas card. I haven't stopped since and plan to continue for a very long time. My goal is to start making handmade cards because they really do look so much nicer then store bought. Uh. But that would be next year because I already bought cards for this year.

I belong to a Scottie forum called CyberScots. They do a Christmas card exchange, and I used to do that, sending out about 65 cards. I also sent cards to friends and family. I have sut way back and I really miss the mail (sniff, sniff!) but there was so much energy involved in making my cards and getting them sent!

Now, I am basically sending cards just to close friends and family. Living out as we do, and with Mark and the kids here 24/7, it is hard to do "extras" like I used to!

I am going to try and send cards. If I can work it in somehow!! . I absolutely LOATHE sending cards but I always feel good once I've done it. It's one of the few personal touches we have left in our impersonal society. Altho.....a dollar a card?? Ouch!! Send them to your very closest friends and family and send everyone else an e card!

I love cards. It makes me sad that so few people my age and younger actually send them. They are such happy makers. Even before the economy, I only received a handful of cards each year. Yes, I'm on for Christmas cards, but I will probably send more to my new blogging friends than to anyone else.

Did that sound like complaining. I didn't mean for it to. What I meant is that I'm excited to have found some like-minded friends to send cards to. Happy holidays.

Not. I never got into the habit of it which is odd because all of my extended family on both sides even my MIL are card crazy. I love to get them just really bad about sending them.
