Obama Dog

So now we know. It's either going to be a Labradoodle or a Portuguese Water Dog.
That's what Barack Obama told George Stephanopoulos on ABC's 'This Week' -- after a little prompting from the President-elect's daughters, Malia and Sasha.
The two girls were sitting in the control room before the taping and gave the question to Stephanopoulos.

'While you were get getting made up, they went into the control room and played director and producer,' Stephanopoulos told Obama. 'And they actually gave me a question they want me to ask you. You know exactly what it's going to be.'
Obama's response: 'They seem to have narrowed it down to a Labradoodle or a Portuguese Water Hound ... medium-sized dog, and so, we're going to start looking at shelters to see when one of those dogs might come up.'

How tough has it been choosing a family pet?

'This has been tougher than finding a commerce secretary,' Obama said."

With all of the dogs we have in Bichon Rescue today....I am VERY GLAD they decided against the Bichon Frise!!

They are so ugly they're almost cute. :-) Do both of those breeds make good pets for children?

I love that they're looking in shelters!

that top guy is so cute with his bit of white, like a bib

Biden pissed me off a little with his new puppy from a breeder - I'm not a big fan of breeders - even the responsible ones - in this economy there are far too many animals who need homes - the world doesn't need more
but I did read that he has shelter pets as well

I'm not understanding why you don't want them to get a Bichon. Could you fill me in?

Sure aims....if they picked a bichon, everyone would want a bichon and the rescue folks would be going even more crazy than they are now....when people figured out that bichons need much more care than the average dog!!

I like the first one..just the name "water dog" sounds strange. Poor dog with a name like that but it is cute. Is it named that because although dry it looks all wet? :)

a colleague of mine has a labradoodle and wrote about this, too. i believe a big reason for this choice is that they are hypoallergenic (one of the obama's in allergic to dogs).

Apparently there is a shelter in Manitoba that have a bunch of them from a seizure and they are offering to give one on behalf of our country, through the Canadian government.

This breed makes wonderful pets, and their curly hairs are good for people allergic to dogs.
