Thoughts As We Depart and Arrive

Years ago...when I was immersed in Management Training for a Fortune 500 Company, we attended lots of meetings and seminars....at many of those seminars, we held brainstorming sessions. I ran across some old notes from one of those sessions and thought it might just be relevant to this new year that just arrived.

So, without further ado, I give you some thoughts as we depart 2008 and embark on our new journey in 2009:

*Attack every problem with enthusiasm...as if your survival depended on it.

*Anyone can hold the helm when the sea is calm.

*Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadows.

*No one can predict to what heights you can soar, even you will not know until you spread your wings.

*Don't wait for your ship to come in...swim out to it.

*Attitude is a little thing that makes a BIG difference.

*You cannot discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.

*A bend in the road is not the end of the road...unless you fail to make the turn.

*You will always miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

*There are many things in life that will catch your eye, but only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.

*You cannot hold a torch to light another's path without brightening your own.

*A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make the right decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the quality of his actions and the integrity of his intent. In the end, leaders are much like eagles...they don't flock, you find them one at a time.

*A hundred years from now, it will not matter what my bank balance was, what sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove, but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.

*In life, what sometimes appears to be the end, is really a new beginning.

*Love doesn't make the world go 'round, but it sure makes the ride worthwhile!

*Don't be afraid to go out on a limb...that is where the fruit is.

Here's hoping you soar to new heights this year.

Ah yes, corporate team meetings, I remember them well...the birthplace of motherhood statements.

Always remember that while there's no I in team, there's four in platitude quoting idiot.

(obviously this isn't directed at you, it's simply my view of the motivators that we use to waste good money on).

They're good thoughts, but soured by having heard them parroted in the face of opposing actions. Sigh. I'm too cynical.

Love the pooch pic! What a little sweetie!

Fantastic quotes...what a great post for today!

There much courage and determination and pride in the air today. We must hold on to it, and use it, again and again and again.

Bella :)

We don't have those rah rah sessions. I've been to some leadership seminars though. The one that stands out for me even though I practised it before I knew of it was *Attitude is a little thing that makes a BIG difference.

I don't know. I think WT was calling you a name. Ok I can't even write that with a straight face. It's been years...and years...but I remember going to a few management meetings where they would bring in the rah rah types. And do you know what? I was such a goob I loved every minute of it LOL Can't believe I just admitted that.

Great words to live by. When I was working in the dairy I was getting this little booklet called "Horse Sense" and it was full every month with sayings like that. I posted them around the plant for people to read. Most people really appreciated what I was posting.
