A LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 PM EST SATURDAY.
Based on the forecast....we may have to take an unplanned trip North to check on the cottage...travel can be treacherous at this time but as soon as snow has settled...we may be shoveling off the roof!!

LAKE EFFECT SNOW WILL CONTINUE TO DEVELOP FROM WATERTOWN NORTH TO THE THOUSAND ISLANDS REGION EARLY THIS MORNING... THEN SETTLE INTO THE WATERTOWN AREA AND MUCH OF CENTRAL JEFFERSON COUNTY TODAY. THIS BAND WILL ALSO EXTEND INTO THE NORTHERN HALF OF LEWIS COUNTY. HEAVY SNOW IS ALSO EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ACROSS THE TUG HILL REGION DURING THE DAY.

EXPECT SNOWFALL RATES OF 1 TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR TO DEVELOP IN THE MOST INTENSE PORTION OF THIS BAND. IN ADDITION TO HEAVY SNOWFALL... STRONG WINDS WILL CREATE BLIZZARD CONDITIONS AT TIMES WITH SIGNIFICANT TO SEVERE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW.

THE BAND IS EXPECTED TO SETTLE ACROSS THE TUG HILL REGION TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY. STORM TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS OF 1 TO 2 FEET ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS CENTRAL JEFFERSON AND NORTHERN LEWIS COUNTIES. ACROSS THE TUG HILL PLATEAU REGION... STORM TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS MAY EXCEED 4 FEET BY SATURDAY AFTERNOON.

We have been stuck in the single digits here for days. I was excited because it was supposed to get up to 28 degrees today, but now we've got a blowing snow advisory that is supposed to drop the temps down below zero again. And it's not even officially winter yet...

We've been having -24C for over a week now and it's snowing to boot.

We finally got around to putting heated cables on our roof to get rid of the dangerous icicles that form on our eaves.

You could do the whole roof with it and have it attached to a device that will turn it on when the temps drop to a certain degree. That way - snow or not - the roof is looked after. Saves time travelling and the chance of falling off the roof. (well - once the things are on anyway)
