Some People are Cruel...

and STUPID...

I drove down to the grocery store to pick up a few things today after stopping at Michaels. My car thermometer said it was 84 degrees outside. I was glad that I had A/C!!

I braved the heat long enough to walk into the air conditioned Wegmans. I picked up the few items that I needed and as I was getting back into my car, I heard a dog howling...not barking...HOWLING! He was drawing attention. Not just from me. The woman next to me looked at me...I must have had a pissed off look on my face! I said, "I feel so bad for that poor dog!". Her response..."at least the window is open". I wanted to wring her neck. I would have liked to have sat this woman down in the back seat of my car and rolled the window down two inches and made her STAY there for a half an hour until she couldn't freakin' stand it...and she was howling!!!

She got in her Lexus and drove off.

I started googling the local humane society on my phone. I called the number. It said it was no longer in service. GRRRRRR!! Meanwhile. Dog is still making noise...not as loud as I'm assuming the poor thing is becoming ragged!! Just as I am about to dial the local police, the owner of the dog decides to stroll over and begin loading groceries into her car. Not without my Glaring at Her with STEAM coming out of my ears!!!

I didn't have any of the heat flyers on me today. I have now printed out a new batch and will be handing them out as I see fit.

Some People are just cruel...

and STUPID.

Can you tell I feel very strongly about this and it makes me very M A D!!!!!

The flyer looks like this:

“Is it too hot to take
my dog along today?”
That’s a question we need to ask ourselves every
time we drive with a dog.
Warm weather can literally be a killer for a dog left
inside a car. Did you know that on warm days, the
inside of a car heats up very quickly? When it’s 85
degrees out, the temperature inside a car — even
with the windows left slightly open — can soar to 102
degrees in 10 minutes, and reach 120 degrees in just
half an hour. On hotter days, the temperature will climb
even higher. Outside temperatures in the 70s can be
dangerous, as well.
Even leaving your dog for “just a minute” may be too
long. A dog’s normal body temperature ranges from
101 to 102.5 degrees. Dogs can withstand a body
temperature of 107 to 108 degrees for only a very short
period of time before suffering brain
damage — or even death.
It,s not cool to leave
your dog in a hot car.

I hate stupid people. Future reference, you can always call 9-1-1. Animals have rights, too.

Oh no! That's horrible.
what was she thinking!?
I hope the doggy was okay.

Hi again Jeanne!

Totally agree with you- owners like that lady ought not to have a dog in their care if they don't know how to be responsible for its welfare.

Am always on the lookout myself for irresponsible owners mistreating in any way their pets!

Love to Chloe & Ladybug - they look so charming in above pic!

XOXO LOLA & Nora:)

I agree with you, 100%. I have gotten into many fights with people. MANY. I get confrontational and ugly and I embarrass them. My husband says someone is going to pull a gun out and kill me. So be it. My fav line is... "ARE YOU THAT STUPID? THAT SELFISH OR THAT ABUSIVE? WOULD YOU LEAVE A HUMAN CHILD IN THAT HOT CAR????"
I had a woman tell me to mind my business and that cost her big time.
I raised enough of a stink that people surrounded her car and yelled at her. I hope she was traumatized enough and her license easily recognized. I look for it every time I am in that parking lot.

That's horrible.

I never leave Chloe in the car in the summer months. Period. I save that for fall and spring. Even winter I don't do it. Chloe only stays in the car alone for up to about 20 mins., max. and usually in her Sherpa bag, not free in the seat. I crack the window for ventilation/circulation, not climate control.

Those flies are a good idea - you should post them and we can copy them and hand out too.

Beth here! I am with you on this one! Bravo to you for making up the flyers! Great idea! I get VERY upset when I see anyone do anything cruel to ANY animal!

The flyers are a great idea...and yes, you can call 911 and tell them your dilemna.. if nothing else, they will call an available animal control unit and get something out there. It's a good idea to mortify stupid people like that.

Can you believe...unrelated but even more horrible.. a few years ago a local dog groomer here left a Yorkie in front of a heat dryer and forgot about it... fried the poor thing. She lost her license and paid a penalty, but STILL!!!!

glad you are doing something, but confrontation only side-tracks....

People like that do not need
pets. The one good thing is you did see her return to the car.
Any longer and the poor pup might
have crashed.
