Busy as Bees

We had absolutely no intention of keeping bees or making honey.

However, we did have to hire a Bee Guy to come and extract these lovely creatures from under the soffit in the house.

It was a B I G job and one my husband will not soon forget.

He has promised more pictures...tomorrow.

For today...the girlz and I are staying at the cottage AWAY from those bees!

Good idea... stay indoors and
away from the bees..

I doubt the girlz will mind
having some quality time with you.

They're beautiful shapes, aren't they? So unlike the manufactured frames that captured bees are forced to use. But - yeah, big job, big mess to remove.

My gran lived with a colony in her basement foundation somewhere, who had their entrance right in the middle of her front door stairs. Didn't bother her a bit, but as a little girl, I hated it. Not sure I'd like it much better now.

we have been there!!! 2 hives in our gazebo. Our cooperation extension service sent in the men and they took them, it was a slow tedious process, and they were glad to get the honey producers, so it was free to us! Considering momma is allergic to bees, she would have paid to get them out!!!

Hard to believe how fast they can show up. A swarm came to our house once and took up residence in our chimney. Then they kept coming down into the family room. My husband finally took matters into his own hands (often a scary proposition) and lit a fire in there. 98 percent flew up and out the chimney but, the rest took refuge in our family room. The kids stood by the fireplace opening and swatted them with fly swatters. I went and lay in my bed in a fetal position.
