LadyBug's Injury!

LadyBug was back at the vet for an emergency visit. We had run out to the store to get some groceries. Upon our return, the girlz were at the garage door waiting to go out to do their business....which is normal behavior. It was NOT normal behavior when LadyBug started crying loudly and trying to get underneath my car.

I knew that something was really wrong! I dialed the vet's number...knowing that they were closed, and praying that someone would answer that phone!! I said I'd bring her right over. It's only about a five minute ride. When I got there, all the lights in the building are off and there is only one car in the lot. I'm thinking....this is really weird. (Come to find out....I had dialed the wrong vet!)

But, I was in panic mode and started pounding on the door when I saw a person inside. The person just happened to be one of the vets!! He told me it would be an extra $95.00 for an emergency visit. At this point, I was holding LadyBug and she was clearly in pain...uncomfortable. I said...let's just find out what is going on. So...in we go...and little Miss LadyBug decides that she is going to wag her tail and prance around the room like there isn't anything wrong with her!!

Gah! I felt like a jerk. So, as I am explaining to the vet what had happened...and showed him a short video that I had taken...it appears that what is going on (again) is that LadyBug has a luxating patella ... on both sides ... and one or both of them had gotten out of whack and then popped back in again. The vet did a complete exam...more thorough than any exam she had ever had before! We decided at this point to treat her with a shot of Metacam and she must go on a little diet. Which isn't going to be easy for her. LadyBug loves food!! Fortunately, some of the things she likes are carrots!

The baby gates have made an appearance once again and we are carrying her up and down stairs for the time being. She is feeling much better now, but trying to keep these little ones "quiet" is a very difficult thing to do!! Trying to get her to rest as much as possible.

Chloe was clearly very worried about her when we returned home! She kissed her and acted like she hadn't seen her in about five years! Now, Chloe is going to play nurse until her sister is back up and feeling like herself again!!

Hoping that this isn't going to be a long and drawn out injury...and also hoping we can manage with medication. We do not give it to her unless she absolutely needs it!!

Please send healing thoughts for my baby girl.

It is terrible when they suffer! I hope Lady Bug improves quickly!! Give her extra kisses from me.

Now about your vet. The payment arrangements stated when you were in a panic at the door with a dog in need of medical care was, in my opinion, a bit "chilly". Of course you would pay any price to give your dog relief... But glad the vet was there! So glad we have 2 (!) emergency 24/7/365 vet clinics in ANC with very competent & caring vets when an emergency such as this one arises.

I hope that she gets better soon. Poor thing. I dislike when our furry friends are in need of care and the vets are closed. Sending healing prayers her way. I'm glad that she has a little nurse to keep her company:-) They look precious on the photo.

Hoping your baby girl heals fast. My Maxie had two knee surgeries for torn cruciate ligaments because she had a luxating patella in both knees. When they fixed the torn ligament, they made the groove in the knee that the patella sits in deeper. We also bought doggie stairs after the first one and that kept her from jumping off the furniture. Of course she jumped off the furniture at my parent's house when they were watching her and tore the second one.

and as you try and tape your ripped apart heart.... they look you as if you are crazy... Foot massager. Buy one. Put her in it every night and run it. OR take her in your jacuzzi with. If you do not chose surgery, the next best thing is for scar tissue to become strong enough that the patella does not pop out. JD has has a patella issue since the age of 5 months. Diet is good. Add zucchini, green beans, cauliflower ... fillers....VOLUMIZE! Kisses to Ladybug, hugs to you.

Oh no poor little Ladybug! Isn't it just like them to appear fine when you get to the vet, just like children. So happy she is doing better. Yes, it is hard to keep the little ones calm when they really want to play. Chloe is such a good sister. Blessings to all of you.

Okay, sorry for the previous question on my previous post. Poor, girl.

I'm not familiar with that kind of problem yet. Is that some sort of Bichon breed issue or is it brought by age?

I hope she gets better. Did the doctor recommend any kind of touch therapy?

If she's really stressed out, try checking out the Tellington Touch in Youtube. It might just help.

Poor Ladybug, hope she is feeling better!

Lilibell has luxating patellas in both of her back legs (she was diagnosed with the left one at 12 weeks!), which causes her to have a cute little skip when she walks. Thankfully it is not painful for her. She is at a great weight, so that is not something I need to be worried about, and my holistic vet put her on a joint supplement along with Chinese herbs for joints/ligaments. These will hopefully help to keep the joints lubricated and hold off surgery for as long as possible. Maybe a joint supplement will be of help to Ladybug?
