How Do You Celebrate?

One of the things I remember most about growing up is my Mom always made the holidays special. Every single holiday. Whether it was a batch of red and white cupcakes for Valentine's Day or a Green Ribbon in our hair for St. Patrick's Day...she always made those days special for us. In little ways.

Over the years, I have tried to carry on that tradition. We used to go to Niagara Falls in Canada every single year on Valentine's Weekend. That was before Chloe and LadyBug arrived on the scene!! Now, we are home on that weekend, but we try to do little things for each other. Here's a collage of last year's festivities...as you can see the girlz are involved!!

Gearing up for this year...

Do you have a special way to celebrate in your house??

My mom also went all out on holidays. Those were special childhood times - Mr. O & I go out for dinner typically on special occasions & I might donate or volunteer for an animal charity.

Love your collage photos especially that white dessert with chocolate bar!!

We always make some sort of cut out cookies and we have tons of fun decorating Valentine Boxes for the kids!

The kids get chocolate heart boxes and a gift or two, I bake valentine "stuff" and we wear red if we remember...lol...

And you've already seen my decorations :-)

It's so important to do special things and make memories that last a life time!

That's so sweet that you have fun on each holiday like that. Nice collage!
The only one I really do up big is Christmas. I don't decorate the house for any other holiday, although sometimes I say I'm going to buy half-price decorations right AFTER an occasion and put them away for the NEXT year.
For Valentine's Day when the kids were young we got them candies and they did cards for school but they are grown now so we'll give cards and candies to the grands. I expressed some interest in a couple of books and Ron said he'd buy them for me for V day if I wanted. No biggie either way.

Enjoy your celebrating!

Any day is a holiday as long as you're with your loved ones. You don't have to do anything special as long as you spend time together.

:o)

Yup, my mom was the same way. I look back on my childhood with such fond and precious memories. Both my parents enjoyed celebrating the holidays and much as we did, as kids.

Happy Friday, Jeanne!

Lovely post!

Spoilage. V day for us is all about spoilage. We spoil each other. My husband is quite the romantic. I am more of a hard core realist. But because of him, I try. I would rather have a plant than cut flowers... so he indulges me. He likes to give me jewelry and loves doing the dinner and dancing thing... So, high heels and dress... I give him "practical, but not basic" gifts. So, no clothes, but maybe cordless ear piece for his phone. Or maybe a CD or... this year I went all out... I created a slide presentation of our 34 yr marriage with his fav piece of music and I will give him that along with his gavel shaped cufflinks. After all, he has been in Akron for 4 weeks and is coming home for a whole week of R&R ... Got to make it special. How is that for my attempt at "romantic"?

Oh, I love your collage!!! I was thinking that for Valentine's Day your little cuties will have angels wings like cherubs because they are so precious!!!

I love holidays too and it was so awesome what your mom did to celebrate. When my daughter was little, she had a really pretty miniature table and chair set in her bedroom for tea parties. I used to make her tablecloths for each holiday. What fun memories!

I hope you have a beautiful weekend!

I like to celebrate every day, not just when Hallmark or the merchants tell me I should, MOL.

Hey, did you receive your vouchers? Just checkin'...

when my kids were still at home I always did at least something little for every holiday. Now that they are grown and out of the house I don't really do it any more.

We enjoyed seeing your collage! We have special treats for holidays and used to get new toys until Mommy thought we had too many. She's a party pooper.

Awww....my mom also made holidays special. I remember one year, she gave me a pretty ruby necklace with matching earrings!

I try to make the most of holidays, but my kids look at me like I have two heads! They are just pragmatics! Mark is not overly romantic.

I was thinking this year how "weird" the kids are that they don't get excited about looking at the pretty lights at Christmas!!!! Aw well....
