No Decision on the Dog Breeder Plan in Gorham

Thanks to Julie Sherwood of the Messenger Post who reported that there is no decision yet as to the outcome of the Dog Breeder Building planned for Gorham, NY. Some 400 people showed up at the meeting of the town last night. Emotions ran high. Very high.

We need to shut these things down. They are just terrible for the poor animals who suffer so much.

Yes, I can just imagine the emotions running high, particularly on this topic.

I fully agree with you, Jeanne. And I'm glad to hear that action is being taken.

Have a great Thursday, dear lady!

Hope the decision is against the dog breeder building

A breeder building is too much. There's already so many many puppies out there in the shelters that need a home. We don't need breeders breeding more.

We agree! We know some breeders are responsible but the ones who are not should be shut down!

Unfortunately, there are people who are ignorant and will continue to buy pups from millers. As long as there are uninformed customers, there will be puppy mills. It makes my blood boil.

Do you remember the pet store that was in the Roseland Plaza for awhile? I went in there. They had all the namebrand foods and lots of stuff. They also had puppies. When I asked where they came from, the girl said "midwest". ARGH! Biggest millers!!!!!!!! People who "just want a purebred pup" don't always know to contact a BREEDER!!!!!!

Of course that opens another can of worms, because some breeders show their pets and don't like "backyard breeders". It gets so complicated, even for those of us who love dogs.

Thanks for the update. We hope people keep up the pressure and this project is scrapped. Our Puff was a breeder mill pup and when she was too old to breed she was chained outside day and night 365 days a year in the freezing Kansas heat and cold. She came to us with heartworm and fly eaten ear tips and had never been on a leash or in a home.

Great turnout! They ALL need to be put out of business! Too many perfectly good pets in shelters & foster care waiting for a good home.

I totally agree! Hopefully there's a good resolution.

Oh I so with they could close down all these sleazy puppy mills. I know that is practically impossible, but it is so necessary. I used to live in Missouri and they were all over the place. In this day and age, I can't imagine why someone would buy a puppy there, yet I know they do. So sad. Thanks for this post.

I signed the petition to get it stopped. Those things are horrible and makes me sick and disgusted every time I see a story about it. There is a store in Rhode Island, Rumford Pet, that sells puppy mill dogs (of course, when I asked them where they came from, they said vaguely "breeders all over" and looked shock when I suggested puppy mills.), I absolutely refuse to give them my business and also reported them to the ASPCA.
