The Tick Epidemic...

Ticks can be as lethal as venomous snakes!!

We need to get the word out about ticks and the diseases they carry!

It will be summer soon!!

Time for camping, hiking and spending more time outside. Don't let those pesky annoying

 ticks stop you.

Here is a simple homemade solution!

Repellent for your pets:

For pets, add 1 cup of water to a spray bottle, followed by 2 cups  of distilled white vinegar.

Ticks hate the smell and taste of vinegar, and will be easily be repelled by this ingredient

alone.

Then, add two spoonfuls of vegetable or almond oil, which both contain sulfur (another

natural tick repellent).

To make a repellent that will also deter fleas, mix in a few spoonfuls of lemon juice, citrus oil,

or

peppermint oil, any of which will repel ticks and fleas while also creating a nicely scented

repellent. Spray

onto the pet's dry coat, staying away from sensitive areas including eyes, nose, mouth, and

 the genital

area. When outdoors for an extended period, spray this solution on two to three times per

day.

For you and your family:

In a spray bottle, mix 2 cups of distilled white vinegar and 1 cup of water. To make a

scented

solution so you do not smell like bitter vinegar all day, add 20 drops of your favorite

essential

oil.

Eucalyptus oil is a calm, soothing scent that also works as a tick repellent, while peppermint

and citrus oils give off a strong crisp scent that also repel ticks.

After mixing the solution, spray onto clothing, skin, and hair before going outdoors. Reapply

every four hours to keep ticks at bay, and examine your skin and hair when back inside to

make sure no ticks are on the body.

We must get the word out about the dangers of ticks and how to avoid them!

Well, one good thing about lingering cold is that it delays the spring tick thaw. I avoid walking in the woods altogether in the summer. Just too many ticks. Ugh.

Those are great tips!!! Thanks for sharing!! These little creatures are just horrid!!!! There is a stray kitty I feed every day and even built him a little house outside, and anyways, he came home with a tick one day, and it was not fun to get off him! Luckily he did not get infected, and I made sure to remove it properly and keep the area cleaned. Great post!!!

Thanks for linking up to thoughtless thursday! Always look forward to your posts!

Jeanne, this is exactly the formula we used in Florida, where ticks and fleas are very predominant year-round, and it works GREAT.

I use essential oils a lot, for various things, so I know how effective they are.

GREAT post!

X to you and the girlz!

I've been lucky so far that I've not had to deal with ticks but you can never be too careful. This is great and I'll be saving this and using it

Ugh I hate ticks, even seeing them on your finger makes me shudder. Those sound like great recipes. Gonna pin them.

Yuck the dreaded ticks. We have our tick treatment religiously and we are lucky we don't really have them here in town. Have a fabulous Friday.

Best wishes Molly

Here in Miami it's constantly hot so we deal with this very often. We buy many repellents but we didn't know there are homemade recipes. Thank you for sharing such an important information. Have a great weekend!

Hi my friend, Thank you so much for sharing this with us! I will also pass it along to my family and friends. Here in Colorado, we don't have fleas in this area and I'm so very thankful. I'm glad you are heading south to sunshine; we will be going to the islands in a month or so to rest and relax before we come home and move.
Jeanne, just want to say how thankful I am for your friendship; you have enriched my life and helped me so much with Hunter.
Safe travels! Give your girls some love for me.
Hugs, Noreen & Hunter
