A Whole Lotta Ruckus Goin' On!

Yes. I realize it is 5:04am.

Apparently the cow across the street doesn't realize that.

I got up to let the girls out and Zippo decided he needed to go outside too. Of course, it is 8 degrees out. The girls ran out, did their thing, and ran right back inside and up the stairs to the nice warm bed. Zippo, on the other hand, decided he wanted to just hang out on the porch. Not wanting to fight with him at the moment (he does weigh a hundred pounds). I decided to leave him out for a minute, and go and throw a load of laundry in the washer. Figured by the time I was done, he'd be ready to come in. Especially at that temperature!! No dice. So, I folded some clothes that were in the dryer, made a quick birthday card, and then I hear this NOISE!! A bellowing I had never heard before.

I do live across the street from open fields and there is a farm on that land. But in all the years I have lived here ... all 18 years ... I have never heard this sound before!! So, I go and peer out the window and I don't see anything. I step out on the porch and hear this very loud and eerie M O A N I N G of some sort. How weird is that?

Maybe the cow was giving birth?

I don't know. It's just plain strange.

Zippo is inside snoring away now. Even he decided it was just too damn cold and he really didn't seem to care about the cow.

Guess I'll never find out why that cow was making such a racket, but I'm going to go to sleep now.

And that cow isn't going to stop me.

Have you ever heard a strange noise in the middle of the night??

Stupid cow. I would freak out if I woke up to a moo. I hope you get a nap in!

Maybe he was 'mooooing' at the full moon?? lol

I did have an incident recently where I was in bed but couldn't sleep. I heard noise in the kitchen like the door being opened. It squeeked a little bit. We have a cat and it was probably her just going down to the basement for potty but for some reason I was freaked out. I got the bat from behind the bedroom door and laid it next to me by the bed thinking that if anyone comes in here I'm going out swinging. But whyohwhy would I even think that someone was in the house because I have 2 dogs and the one barks at everything and everyone and the other is a pretty good watch dog. We have to crate or hold him whenever anyone comes over to make sure he's sniffed the person out and knows it's okay.
They obviously didn't hear the noise. LOL

Happy weekend!

That sound, I think, is called lowing, and it's usually when a calf gets separated from the mother.

Yes! I have awakened to myself SNORING!!! Seriously! hehehehe!!!!

Let's see...well, living in the woods, I have never seen an owl by day, but I know they are living in the woods. So...sometimes in the summer when the windows are open, we will be awakened to the sound of an animal SCREECHING as it is being swooped up! And, I think perhaps we have heard other animals getting into a tift from time to time.

No matter what, sounds in the middle of the night are unnerving and always seem much worse than daytime sounds!

Poor cow. I wonder what was up with it? They usually go inside a shed or barn at night, don't they; most of them?

I usually don't investigate night sounds If it's outside of my locked door, I just hope it stays there.

Maybe you'll see a baby cow running around and have your answer. :) My little female always seems content outside and I sometimes have to coax her in with treats! Silly girl!
