Had a great day exploring the quaint little Amish town of Shipshewana, Indiana. Visited many of the little shops. There was alot of activity going on...some sort of horse auction.
Their woodworking skills are unbelievable! What beautiful furniture ... if only I could win the lottery!
We watched an Amish woman make some homemade pretzels that were just out of this world good!! Stopped into their bulk food store and picked up some of their homemade sausage that was just delicious...especially cooked outside on the grill.
I wish I could have stayed a bit longer to do a little bit more exploring...there is much to see here in this small town!!
Back on the road tomorrow...probably stopping somewhere in Ohio.

There's also lots of Amish in Ohio, and they're all called Yoder too.
You should see if you can swing by Mansfield, the old Mansfield Reformatory is, that's where they filmed the Shawshank Redemption.
You only live once, grab a piece of that furniture :-)
I was with you until the pretzel. Being a celiac I just can't do stuff like that. Last time I had a pretzel like that I was ill. Very ill. The memory remains.

I have been reading some books about the Amish by Christian writer Beverly Lewis. She grew up in Lancaster County, PA, and gives some insight into their lives. She has some Amish friends she consults to try to potray an accurate "picture".
I recently heard many Amish are leaving Lancaster County, moving to Holmes County, Ohio, because commercialism has overwhelmed them.
Looks like you had a great visit there and even if the furniture was too pricey, you can always pick something up at the Windmill...many of the pieces there seem reasonably priced!
