Opinions Please!

I am trying to decide if tablets will be replacing laptops. Have had many discussions regarding this and I am interested in your opinions.

What is your take?

Probably depends on what your needs are... a laptop with a bigger screen than a tablet is better for working on photos... but just for viewing photos.. nothing beats the retina display on a tablet.
I use an Ipad for browsing.. but create my photo books on a laptop.

I love the fact that it's so easy to go smaller and still be able to do some of the basic things but for me when it comes right down to it, I still like having the full size of a laptop.

No tablets here so we are of no help. Have a marvellous Monday and enjoy the start of Spring.

Best wishes Molly

I only have a laptop, and my phone. I personally think some stuff would be to hard to do on a tablet. Like writing. I would love a tablet just for surfing and stuff like that.

No, because I can't do somethings on my tablet that I can on my laptop. And it's easier to do some things on the laptop. I love my ipad but I can't download all my photos and edit them onto it - not easily anyway. Typing very long things is so annoying that I normally put it down and grab the laptop. However, when traveling I will often just take the ipad

Since the tablets we have (iPads) don't have the ability to store pictures, plus I am still not comfy typing on a tablet....I'll keep my laptop around for awhile.

Jeanne, I don't have a tablet, so I'm not any help on this. But it does seem to me that tablets are becoming more and more popular because of their size and portability. However, for me...I still prefer working on desktop. Although, I do have a laptop as well, but I don't use it much.

Have a great week, my friend!

X to you and the girlz!

I will never get rid of my laptop or desktop...ever. I enjoy the ease of use for the tablet but when I really want to get "into" a program, etc., dewktop or laptop fills the bill.

Hi Jeanne, I want to share that both hubby and I have laptops and while we have taken one on vacations, in the past, they are still heavy to carry if you are flying. We also use Word and Excel, which is why we still have them. When hubby is ready to replace his antique(just 6 yrs old), he will more than likely get an IPad. I have an IPad mini but it is a bit to small-but so easy to take on trips. If you can afford it, I would keep one laptop(for those things like writing) and also add in a notebook or IPad. I wasn't sure how we'd adjust to an IPad but we love it!!!!
Hope you have some clarity going forward.
Hugs, Noreen

We have both and can't imagine giving up a laptop for a tablet only but yet our mommy and daddy use the computers for work so need the full keyboard and dual monitors, etc. We say whichever holds the most pictures of you girls is what you need!

You can't do every single thing on a tablet

I use my Kindle Fire HD (basically a tablet) almost as much as my laptop but I wouldn't get rid of the laptop anytime soon. It still isn't very easy to do much typing on a tablet without an external keyboard. I might go for one of those laptops that converts to a tablet that has been in lots of commercials (but I can't remember the brand right now).

I have an iPad and tho I love it, when I really need to work on the computer, I need to get on the computer. The tablet it fun for lots of apps but kind of a pain if you want to do any typing. I don't see them replacing laptops any time soon.

Well, the answer is, of course, yes, and no. The limitations of a tablet are that the screen is small and the keyboard is a pain. Also, they have different operating systems and are therefore somewhat handicapped depending on what you want to do. Of course you can always dock your tablet to a larger screen and a keyboard. For me, I still prefer a desktop or a docked laptop for most stuff other than just surfing the internet (then again, my job is in computers, so maybe I'm not the best person to ask).

I love my iPad for some things, but definitely not for blog commenting. I also love my laptop:) They both have their place in my life. Good luck deciding.

When my last laptop died, I opted to replace it with an old fashioned desktop instead, since I already had an ipad. I use my ipad when I want to be mobile (like now, reading blogs and watching the news while I sit on the sofa) but I still use my desktop for my writing and blogging. Since I spend many hours in front of the PC, I need to be sitting in a good ergonomic position, which my laptop was not conducive to! I don't think tablets are up to replacing full on PCs yet.

I love my iPad, but I also love having a lap top. They each have their own function... I am planning on getting a new MacBook Pro as I need more photo editing capabilities will on the road. I like to think of my iPad as my life organizer, which at 16GB I have now out grown :(

I have an iPad and a lap top. I NEVER EVER blog on my iPad. I agree with Riley below. I don't think tablets are replacing anything, I will continue to blog on a laptop as long as they exist!

I love my iPad, but I can't do anything with my pictures on an iPad. I need my laptop for that. It's great to have the portability of an iPad for a lot of things, but I don't think they'll replace laptops until they have a lot more memory capacity.

I think I-pads are awesome for taking notes because they are so much smaller than a laptop. This is an interesting discussion because I've been thinking of leaving the laptop home when going to conferences and taking an i-pad. Only thing is I take mega photos, and want to find a more efficient way to get from the Nikon to sorting out, resizing quickly. Doesn't sound like the tablet is the way to go.
