Learning From Our Elders

We can learn so very much from our elders!  Years ago, my great aunt came to live with us.  She lived with us for a couple of years and passed away at the age of 105.  She died of leukemia.  She was never sick a day in her life...never had children...and was never married!  Here is a list of  things that centenarians have put together as advice for our younger generations...

  1. Always maintain a good sense of humor.
  2. Never be too good to start at the bottom.
  3. Love at first sight is not a fable.
  4. Having a bad job is better than having no job at all.
  5. Your family is the most precious thing you will ever have in life.
  6. Your life is delicate, and if you neglect yourself, you'll spoil.
  7. Don't ever be afraid to be your true self.
  8. You must be able to forgive, even if it's difficult to do.
  9. Love is not always easy; sometimes you have to work at it.
  10. Find something comical in every single situation.
  11. If you're faced with a problem, don't delay trying to figure it out. But if there's no way to figure it out, you have to forget about it.
  12. Make sure you're doing what you love; don't be afraid to follow those dreams you have for yourself.
  13. Education is important, but not necessary. Life can be an education in itself.
  14. Explore your world and stay curious.
  15. Try not to take yourself so seriously.
  16. Have common sense. Think about the most reasonable answer to every situation. If you don't have common sense, you're a bust.
  17. Life is a gift that you must unwrap. It's up to you to determine if what's inside will lead you to happiness or dismay. You have the power to make that decision for yourself.
  18. Live a good, clean life. No drinking.
  19. Get married for life. Find somebody that you really love.
  20. Remember that you are a good person.
  21. Consider other people and hang in there.
  22. Don’t smoke and don’t drink.
  23. Be happy.
  24. It is not absolutely necessary to live a clean life. There are centenarians that never ate a vegetable and weren't big on fruit.. There are many people that lived to be over 100 who did not drink tons of water every day.
  25. Be pleasant and friendly.
  26. Be kind and honest.
  27. Be considerate of other people.
  28. Be optimistic and stay interested in lots of things.
  29. Keep trying something new.
  30. Faith will sustain you.
These are all food for thought...don't you think??
