As y'all know, Miss Chloe has been suffering from not only the Lyme Disease, getting used to her new antibiotics, and a wicked cough. This wicked cough turned out to be kennel cough and she has had quite a time with it. She hasn't slept much at all this week.
The times she feels the best are when I take her in the bathroom and turn on the shower and let her breathe in the steam. That has worked better than anything. We tried to get her to take some honey. No way. She did not want ANY part of that!! We tried the Greenies Pill Pockets for her cough tablets. No way. She would eat the pill pocket and five minutes later...out would come the pill...carefully licked clean of all the peanut butter.
Honestly, Chloe could find a needle in a haystack. It is hard enough getting her to take the antibiotic...which I have been somewhat successful in getting her to eat...crushed into her wet food and stirred up really good with coconut oil.
LadyBug has started coughing a bit now and then, but hoping she won't have it as bad as Chloe did.
I think Chloe needs about a week to catch up on all of the sleep she missed. Fortunately, all of the company has gone home and home is not as hectic now!

That's too bad, I hope she gets some relief soon.
that is a good idea with the shower room... I will remember that, many thanks!!! Hugs and POTP to Chloe and LadyBug :o)
Oh poor Chloe, I hope she gets some rest soon. She must be so exhausted on top of not feeling well. Hope Ladybug stays healthy!
Poor, poor Chloe. We really hope she starts to feel better soon. We learned with our first pup who ended up with an auto-immune disorder and was on a drug cocktail (sometimes 15 pills a day) just to shove them down his throat, and give him a cookie after. We have used this with all our other pets too.
Chloe.....we're sending you lots of {{{hugs}}} today. Feel better soon!
We hope you feel better soon, Chloe. We're sending lots of healing vibes your way!
Sending love to Chloe. How about banana :-) Sending you lots of Golden Healing Thoughts. Golden Woofs, SUGAR
Praying you feel better real soon, sweet Chloe. Get some rest and take your medicine, it will make you feel so much better. Praying also for your sweet LadyBug that she won't get any worse with her cough. Please keep us posted.
We are sorry she is not responding as quickly as we had hoped! Our mom wonders if you have tried the shove-the-pill-down-her-throat-with-your-finger, massage neck and and use a peanut butter chaser?
Your Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
oh poor Chloe. I hope she gets over this soon. I know how frustrating it must be for you also trying to get her to take medicine. When Duke was so sick and had 6 different pills he had to take he fought against it so much and I would end up in tears over it.
Poor Chloe, we hope she is better soon. It must be harder for her to fight the cough with the Lyme's disease affecting her system too. Ciara is pretty good about taking her pills mixed in her canned food or in a bit of ice cream. Mom has also had good luck putting Easy Cheese from the can on a small treat and hiding the pill under it.

We are keeping our paws crossed for Chloe. Our pawrents have used the liquid Robitussin for kennel cough in the past but. of course, it is only successful if you can get it down her throat.
Millie & Walter
We hope Chloe gets back to 100% real soon!!
Thanks so much! Just when I think it has been a couple of hours of relative silence...she starts up again. It is just really S L O W progress right now.
I haven't yet tried the liquid Robitussin although I have read that some people have been using the DM version of it for Kennel Cough. My problem remains...trying to get it down her throat. My attempts at getting Children's Benadryl Liquid in a syringe down her throat have not been easy...she ends up with most of the syringe full of liquid on her fur and all over the floor! Thanks for the heads up!
I agree, I think it is harder for her to fight the Kennel Cough...because she is also fighting the Lyme. Like I said, she does pretty well with the Doxy because I can crunch it up and disguise it in her food. With my Big Guy, I used to use Easy Cheese all the time...or ice cream! It worked very well for him. But, Chloe's mouth is so much smaller that it is much harder to use that technique and she just fights me every step of the way. I hope Ciara is feeling better!!
That is exactly how I feel Ann! They rely on us to help them when they are sick, and when I can't get her to even take the meds...well...it is just making it last that much longer! I have been doing a ton of reading...and it looks like it should run its course without an extra cough medicine...and to call the vet if she's not better within about 21 days...it hasn't been that long yet. Oh my goodness! I cannot imagine trying to get SIX pills in to her!!
Yes! I have tried the Shoving it down the throat method, but it works much better on BIG dogs than it does on LITTLE dogs. I used to use it on their big brother all the time. Chloe just hides the pill somewhere in her mouth and waits til I turn around and pfffffttt...out she spits it on to the floor! So I have decided for now to just wait it out. As long as she is getting the antibiotic in her food...I am going to see if it just gets better on its own. It seems as if the Doxy is kicking in now...she is still having coughing fits...really LOUD ones at that! But they are fewer and farther between. It is a very good thing I don't live in an apartment right now...I would be evicted. It really IS that loud!!!
Thanks Sugar and Rosalyn. I would try banana...except Miss Chloe will not even go NEAR a banana. She hates the smell of them...let alone the taste!
Thanks Molly and Mackie! We are hoping that she will continue to improve...albeit it slow.
Thanks very much Amber!! We need all the hugs we can get right now!
Yikes! 15 pills!! I cannot even imagine! That technique worked very well on our big dog, but for the little ones...it is almost impossible to get that pill in there and get it down their throat! For now, I am crushing the Doxy and mixing it in her wet food and coconut oil!
Thank you!! Chloe really is exhausted. Itseems she is doing a LOT of sleeping and that is a very good thing!! She really needs it! We are hoping LadyBug won't get it as bad. Knock on Wood!!
Yes, Easy, the shower steam has been doing an amazing job for clearing her head so she can breathe better! Thanks for the POTP!!
Hope she feels better real soon!
Poor baby! Our little Gracie is recovering from kennel cough too. She's sending Cavalier get well soon nuzzles to Chloe.
