If you can, please send healing vibes, energy and prayers our way.  Miss Chloe has injured her spine...she is on Metacam and rest, rest, rest.  I am carrying her out to go to the bathroom and right back inside.  Her grooming appointment for tomorrow had to be cancelled as she cannot stand up.

We sure are hoping she will feel better as we all feel so bad when the little ones are hurting.

LadyBug Vet Visit & Stay Tuned for a Giveaway!

As you all know LadyBug was due for her vet visit...and it went off quite well actually!  I am happy with the new vet that I saw and for now I'm not going to say anything else about it.

LadyBug was given a clean bill of health and THEN she got to go to get a treat at the store!!  She has never been shopping with mama before, so this was a VERY big deal!!  She was such a good girl, both at the vet and while we were shopping!  She even met another dog...no problems at all!  Fun times with my girl!!  Chloe was happy to stay home with her Dad...she doesn't like riding anymore...no matter what I do.

Now...please stay tuned as I plan to do a giveaway...I just realized that I've been blogging for FIVE years!  Actually five and a half now...it doesn't seem possible!

I was having a discussion with another blogger the other day and I am interested in your thoughts on vet care in general.

Years ago...growing up...we always had two german shepherds.  We took them to the vet if they were injured or REALLY sick, but it was a rare occurrence.  We also had them wear those flea collars...that were so popular back then.  I'm not a thousand years old...I am in my early fifties!!

Anyway, I received a notice from the town that it was time to renew LadyBug's license...and in order to renew her license, I need to get her a rabies shot.  So, I called the vet to make the appointment.  Along with this request, the secretary informed me that it was also time for her annual visit...and her Distemper...AND her Heartworm Test...and her kennel cough vaccine.  The cost of said vet visit will be a couple hundred dollars.

After I hung up the phone, the debate about vet care continued...with my husband.  He simply does not understand why on earth we need to get ALL of these tests and vaccines done...when we never got them for our dogs "years ago".

I'm not a fan of applying chemicals to the girlz' skin.  Bichons have a tendency to have a reaction to shots and topicals applied to their skin as they are sensitive.  I have found an all natural treatment spray called RediCare that repels fleas and ticks...and even mosquitos!!  The best part is that I can use it too!!  It is a bit difficult to find, but I always order it from my friend, Jill, at Maryland Bichon Rescue because 100% of the purchase goes directly to the rescue!!  I am allergic to everything under the sun, and this stuff is AWESOME.  Seriously.  I love it.  The girlz are not particularly fond of the scent, but it is a clean scent and not overwhelming.

LadyBug's Injury!

LadyBug was back at the vet for an emergency visit. We had run out to the store to get some groceries. Upon our return, the girlz were at the garage door waiting to go out to do their business....which is normal behavior. It was NOT normal behavior when LadyBug started crying loudly and trying to get underneath my car.

I knew that something was really wrong! I dialed the vet's number...knowing that they were closed, and praying that someone would answer that phone!! I said I'd bring her right over. It's only about a five minute ride. When I got there, all the lights in the building are off and there is only one car in the lot. I'm thinking....this is really weird. (Come to find out....I had dialed the wrong vet!)

But, I was in panic mode and started pounding on the door when I saw a person inside. The person just happened to be one of the vets!! He told me it would be an extra $95.00 for an emergency visit. At this point, I was holding LadyBug and she was clearly in pain...uncomfortable. I said...let's just find out what is going on. So...in we go...and little Miss LadyBug decides that she is going to wag her tail and prance around the room like there isn't anything wrong with her!!

Gah! I felt like a jerk. So, as I am explaining to the vet what had happened...and showed him a short video that I had taken...it appears that what is going on (again) is that LadyBug has a luxating patella ... on both sides ... and one or both of them had gotten out of whack and then popped back in again. The vet did a complete exam...more thorough than any exam she had ever had before! We decided at this point to treat her with a shot of Metacam and she must go on a little diet. Which isn't going to be easy for her. LadyBug loves food!! Fortunately, some of the things she likes are carrots!

The baby gates have made an appearance once again and we are carrying her up and down stairs for the time being. She is feeling much better now, but trying to keep these little ones "quiet" is a very difficult thing to do!! Trying to get her to rest as much as possible.

Chloe was clearly very worried about her when we returned home! She kissed her and acted like she hadn't seen her in about five years! Now, Chloe is going to play nurse until her sister is back up and feeling like herself again!!

Hoping that this isn't going to be a long and drawn out injury...and also hoping we can manage with medication. We do not give it to her unless she absolutely needs it!!

Miss Chloe has been at the vet this week...she had to have her Rabies / Distemper shot and annual visit.  We also noticed that she had a growth of sorts...and we had been watching it for awhile.  It was actually a cluster of fluid filled bumps inside the folds of her ear.  It was not bothering her...was not red or discolored...but in the past couple weeks, it seemed to get a little bigger.  So, I had the vet check it out and she aspirated them.  Dr. Dewey says that these fluid filled cysts are quite common in dogs of a certain umm...age.  So, we will continue to keep a close watch.

Chloe was a trooper and didn't cry, but holy moly I needed some valium...she was CRAZY nervous in the car on the way to the vet and then we had to wait about an hour!!  Her tongue was all curled up and she was just beside herself by the time Dr. Dewey could see us.

 LadyBug was a nervous WRECK while we were gone, but she was SO HAPPY to greet Chloe upon her return!!  She had to smell Chloe's boo-boo...where she had the blood drawn...and the shots.

All's well for now...and so glad that's over!!
