Sunday Inspiration
Feeling gratitude and not expressing it ... is like wrapping a present and not giving it.
William Arthur Ward
Thank you all so very much for all of your warm birthday wishes!! I appreciate each and every single one!
Yes, the girlz got JUST a taste of cake!! We wanted to stay close to home as the storms had been bad off and on throughout the day and LadyBug is NOT good during storms. We figured if we heard thunder, we were only five minutes from home! So, we grabbed a quick bite to eat at the harbor...scallops!
We had stopped yesterday at our favorite bakery to pick up a couple of pieces of cake...that way we don't have the whole cake lying around for me to eat for the rest of the week!!

Not Exactly What We Planned
Ever had one of those weekends that just didn't go the way you planned? Well..that's the kind of weekend we had!! We were supposed to be celebrating a HOLIDAY weekend.
Yeah right. THAT didn't happen.
My brother was supposed to come and visit but he had a visitor himself...by the name of IRENE! So, he had plans for the weekend with tree cutter guys and roof people!
We had not one, but TWO breaks in the water line...so it is a good thing that we didn't have anyone staying with us. Finally got that fixed...for now. Until the backhoe arrives on Thursday.
We run up to get vegetables at our local stand, and the brakes go out in the little car. ARGHHHHH!!! This is car Number THREE with problems. We are ready to throw them all out. They are getting old. The guy at the garage said and I quote, "It's TIME, Mrs. Pursell." "You need to take this car off the road". NOT what I wanted to hear!!
So, the girlz are supposed to be getting ready to celebrate somebody's birthday in just a couple of days....and instead they did alot of sitting around watching this weekend!
And to top it off...it was raining.
How was YOUR weekend?????

It's Birthday Month!!

My very busy birthday month is almost at a close...went through my daughter, my husband, my SIL, Chloe and LadyBug's birthdays...my mom was also born in January and I always remember her in a special way.
Had a fabulous dinner at Simply Crepes and came back home for dessert. It is FRIGID outside tonight...the temperature right now is 6. Can you believe it...SIX!! I am so ready to head South!!
Been working on alot of cards lately too...mostly birthdays! I do have several thank you notes still to do...and my other SIL's birthday is Feb. 1st. Stopped into Michael's tonight to stock up on some more paper. They were having a terrific sale!
I needed to get a form notarized the other day and called our local library to find out whether they still had a Notary on staff. I found out our library had MOVED. Isn't that weird?? Anyway...found out that they had done a complete renovation and will be back in the old building in the spring. What a huge undertaking THAT must have been...moving ALL those books!!! Another reason why I am enjoying my Kindle so much...don't have to haul around all those books!!

Happy 24th Birthday Meish!!
Where does the time go????
It seems like just yesterday that she was a little girl.
My little girl is 24 years old now!!!
My stepson will be 40 this year.
He is asking the same question...
Life is Short...
Enjoy the little things for one day you may look back and realize ...
they were the big things.

A Lesson That Should Not Be Taught
Since when did children's birthday parties turn into community events?? When my daughter was small, we invited a few of her friends and we got together either at home and had a pool party...or we went to the local roller skating rink and had a party there with maybe ten of us.
Today? Today it is different. Totally different!! NOW they are renting halls and having EVENTS.
Before I get any flack here. This is MY blog and I will state MY opinion.
I do not feel that this is a good lesson to be teaching kids today. Let's invite everyone we know and ask them to bring an expensive present to the party!
It's not a good lesson in my opinion.
Just sayin'.

A Pleasant Surprise
We came home to a whole freakin' pile of mail! Mostly bills and advertisements...but one good thing was the postcard that offered me a free entree at Simply Crepes...which most of you know is one of my most favorite places to eat!! So...we got back just in time as it expired on the 30th of September.
What a great treat to come home to! A superb meal!! French Onion Soup...Thai Beef Crepes as the entree...and an assorted mini platter of three of their dessert crepes!

Belated Birthday Celebration & Movie Night
My sister and I celebrated my birthday last night as I wasn't in town on my actual birthday. We had a terrific night, going to see "Nights in Rodanthe" first, then to AppleBee's afterwards....we both love their sizzling desserts! I honestly could watch Richard Gere all night long! The chemistry he has with Diane Lane is undeniable! I really enjoyed the movie...it is one that you could wait for the DVD. The scenery is beautiful as it is filmed on the Outer Banks in North Carolina. I don't want to spoil it for anyone so I won't tell you how it ended. But. It was not the ending that I expected. At All. But I still recommend it!!

Beyond Excited!!
My husband came in the door with a couple of wrapped presents and said we were celebrating my birthday early. I'm like, what??????? That never happens. Ever. Never one to turn down a gift, I graciously opened the two nicely wrapped packages....one a very cool pink laptop sleeve, the other a cute little pink mouse! I loved them both and proceeded to check out the sleeve to ensure that my Dell fit in the sleeve...no problem...it did fit. And the mouse worked great! No new drivers to install - just plug in and instant install! The best kind. Love it! But then he decided we needed to go out to the RV to level it up and get the fridge working. I'm thinking.....now why would we need to do this on Friday if we are not using it til Tuesday???? Oh well....so off we go to get it set to go. We walk in, open the fridge, flick on the switches, and as I am turning around, I SEE IT.......out of the corner of my eye....sitting smack in the middle of the table.....and I screamed! OMG!!! A super cute BRAND NEW PINK Dell Laptop!!! Oh, I am over the moon excited!!! I have been having nothing but problems with my old one. To say that I am thrilled is an understatement.....I haven't been so excited about anything in a long time. I am just thrilled!!! My husband says....you only turn fifty once. I'll take it....I LOVE this thing and am spending as much time as possible right now trying to set it up and get all my stuff working on it.....and figuring out Vista! This is the BEST birthday present!!! WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!

Birthdays: YOUR Opinion Please!

I have something on my mind today. Birthdays. My husband and I are in total disagreement when it comes to Birthdays. In my mind, it is a special day and one that should be celebrated with pomp and circumstance!! Shout it from the rooftops!! Balloons!! Cake!! Gifts!! Special EVERYTHING!! According to me....one cannot have too many balloons, cakes, gifts, etc.
I grew up in a family where we really celebrated every single holiday. We had special cupcakes on Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day we wore green carnations or green bows in our hair. Birthdays, we were always made to feel special. My mom poured her heart into the batter when she made our special cakes. I do not share my mother's talent for baking. Believe me, our local bakery does a much better job than I do!!
A couple of years ago, I had a girlfriend who shared my feelings about birthdays. But, she went OVER the top!! She made that birthday SO very special for me, I will never, ever forget it. Most of the time, I spend my birthday alone at the cottage and we celebrate on the weekend when my husband comes. That particular year, Linda made sure that every single thing was perfect for my day. She went to a bakery in the next town over and had them custom make a beautiful cake. She put really special candles on this cake. She took me to THE best restaurant over in the next town. There wasn't one thing about that day that slipped through the cracks. It was a perfect birthday and one I will never, ever forget.
On the other hand, my husband, prefers to totally forget his birthday. Who in the hell does that?? I think it's weird. Totally weird. So, I go all out anyway. Secretly, I think he would miss it if I didn't. We have been married for 15 years this year so he's used to it by now. When he woke up, there was a giant "Happy Birthday" written on the bathroom mirror in lipstick. When he came downstairs, there was a card next to his keys that I digitally created just for him. Usually I leave a note in his car for him wishing him a Happy Birthday.
We just spoke on the phone and I told him I was planning a special birthday dinner. His response, "Why don't we just have the leftover ham?" "What's the sense in cooking something else when we have stuff in the fridge?"
Is the man crazy? You tell me.

It's Not an Age, It's an ATTITUDE!!

So...I'm late again...putting way to much pressure on myself to blog regularly....I believe. Had a nice birthday dinner on Saturday night at Tin Pan Galley This place has absolutely amazing gourmet food. Been eating there for years and have never, EVER, had anything even remotely bad. I had the Sea Scallops pan seared, finished with sherry - roasted red pepper sauce and served with lobster - sweet potato cakes. As an appetizer, the Five Spice Calamari is the BEST!! One really interesting fact though was that we were the ONLY two people in the entire restaurant. There was a caribbean / reggae / soft jazz type band playing out on the patio....everyone wanted to eat outside. I, however, do NOT tolerate humidity well at all. Something about not being able to breathe. So, we ate inside in the nice air-conditioned and very private dining room. If you are ever in Sackets Harbor, ya gotta check this place out. It is to DIE for!! And so. I am now 49. But, it's not an age....It is an ATTITUDE!!
