Tasty Tuesday: The Healthy Edition

We have all read lately that obesity in pets is becoming a problem...an epidemic of sorts. Here are a few suggestions for things that you can feed your dog...as "Healthy Treat Substitutes"

And it is a real PLUS that they are much cheaper than purchasing costly dog treats!!

Vegetables

Anyone who's ever seen a dog eat grass or greens knows there's a vegetarian side to your pet. Before domestication, when dogs hunted for their living, they ate portions of their prey, which contained a considerable amount of digested vegetable matter. Most animals still want some of this vegetation, but can't digest the tough fibrous components on their own. Try offering your dog some cooked green beans, carrots or peas. Many pets love them, and you can even mix them into their regular diet.

Rice, Popcorn and Pasta

Other favorites for many pets are rice, popcorn and pasta. A bit of a rice cake or some air popped popcorn is a great substitute for a high fat treat. Cooked rice can be added for bulk to a weight control diet. It's a way of giving your pet more food without adding a lot of fat calories. Cooked pasta is also great. Chloe and LadyBug sure do relish a few elbow pieces of macaroni or spaghetti!!

Egg Whites, Cottage Cheese and Yogurt

A cooked egg white is a great protein treat, hard boil a few and keep them on hand. (The yolk has all the fat!) A little dab of cottage cheese or plain yogurt substitutes for licking that ice cream bowl!

Tasty Tuesday: Pumpkin Edition

Pumpkin Drops

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup canned pumpkin (NOT the spiced kind!!)
3 tablespoons apple sauce
1 tablespoon molasses
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 egg whites
1/2  cup water
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl until well blended.  Scoop onto greased cookie sheet about a half an inch apart and bake for about 15 minutes.

Cool and Refrigerate and let the pooches enjoy!!

One of THOSE Days!

As you all know, I have been very busy packing up and trying to get this place closed up for the winter. Finally today we got everything loaded in to my Jeep. When I say loaded...it was freakin' packed! just got the girlz in their seats...said goodbye to my husband ... Who was driving his car home...I turn the key and the car is acting VERY weird! The car is shaking ... The odometer and gauges are flashing. WHAT????

Ben gets in the driver's seat because we all just KNOW that men can figure this crap out better when THEY are in the driver's seat. Come to find out ... Cue the music ... The alternator crapped out! I call AutoZone for the part...no problem...they have it in stock! Ben ONLY has to drive 40 minutes away to get it. So...while he is gone I go back inside and turn the fridge back on...turn the gas back on...go get the coolers out of both cars and load everything back into the fridge.

By the time I'm done...Ben is back with the part. The two of us are outside FREEZING and wet...trying to get the old part out so we can install the new one. Oh Joy. It is the WRONG part! Now of course you know that I must have given the guy at Auto Zone the wrong make/model. WRONG!! Come to find out...after calling AdvanceAuto that my Jeep alternator is not that common and they have to order it from the factory which can take up to SEVEN days!!! Are you kidding me? Ok...whatever. Order the part. We are hoping it will be here by Wednesday! Tomorrow...we have to return the first alternator. Grrrrrrrrrr.

Then I had to figure out which boxes and bags I could get to in order to throw something together for dinner.

On the plus side....I am VERY glad we still have water and internet!! And very glad this did not happen while I was driving on the Thruway.

We SAW It!!

We sure have heard alot about this BIG Autumn MOON that is supposed to be happening...

So...

The girlz and I ventured outside to see what we could see...

Now y'all know that we are NORTHERN New York....not far from the border.

What you see in the middle of that collage is the moon that we saw tonight.

I don't have one of those fancy cameras that can zoom in on the eyelashes of a creature ON the moon...so this is what we got with my little point and shoot...although I do love my Canon Elph!!

Pumpkin Patch Day!

Yes, I am on medication...but I did venture out for a quick trip to the Pumpkin Patch! It was a gorgeous Fall Day today...abundant sunshine and beautiful fall temps...love this time of year!!

Always a bit sad when closing the cottage for the season. That means snow and cold are not far behind.

I truly love Fall! The colors, the smells, the clothes....everything about it! Maybe because I was born in the Fall?

The Christkindl Market!

It started out that today was going to be kind of a sad day....storing the Fiero's away for the winter. But, as it turns out....we are only storing my husband's and mine will be staying out for awhile as long as the weather is relatively nice!! Usually when we put them in storage - it kind of signals the beginning of winter....a long, snowy, cold winter.

But...I'm looking forward to today!! Thank heaven our weather is still holding relatively warm...for us....with temps scheduled to be in the fifties! I am off to the Christkindl Market today...as you can see by this newsflash:

Yes, indeed, I will have my camera with me and I can assure you that I will be blogging....not LIVE blogging, but blogging nonetheless!! So....look here tomorrow on how the event went! We did not attend last year's, so I am excited to see what it's all about!!

OH! And I should mention that they have over 100 arts and crafts booths....shhhhhh...don't want to mention this one to my husband! Ha!

Good to be Back in Canandaigua!

The weather was spectacular today! On my way to get my flu shot, thought I'd snap a few pics...Enjoy!!





 
 
 
 

Sadly, It is That Time Again

Time to close the cottage again for the season. The whole process makes me sad. Tons of freakin' packing to do. Must take anything that will freeze OUT and take it home. So we have to remove batteries from everything and go through every single drawer, closet, cabinet....etc. Remove everything out of the cabinets and the fridge / freezer and defrost. Take all the outside sporting equipment, tables / chairs, yard ornaments and put them all in the basement. Then we have to empty all of the flower pots, rinse, and store them away for the winter. Sort through all the towels and bedding and decide which goes home and which stays here. The docks have all been brought in and the water system must be drained and winterized at the cottage. The jetski and the boat have already been done.

It takes us several weeks to go through this process. Although you'd think we'd have it down to a science by now! We do it in reverse in the spring. It makes me sad because as much as I love the fall season, I do NOT enjoy winter. I'm not an outdoorsy person anyway, and if I didn't have to go outside in the winter, I just wouldn't!! I was in an accident the winter before last when the roads were very icy. Scared the hell out of me. I DETEST driving in winter weather - really wet weather.

So we are going to our favorite restaurant, Tin Pan Galley, tonight to celebrate (probably not a good way to put it) the end of the season. It is something we do every year.

Whew....Back Home for Awhile

Posted below you will see many of the sites I saw today....gorgeous fall colors and sights of Henderson Harbor closing for the season...Chloe saying goodbye to her chipmunks, my scooter all packed up and headed home for the season and the view that I personally will miss most of all, the view of the lake from my kitchen table...hopefully it'll all be there when we return in the spring!!







OH! And, just in case anyone wonders....the new header today is a BABY picture of Chloe when she was just 9 weeks old and 3 pounds!
